When Deepika Padukone rejected Diana Penty role and gave us a character to cherish forever
It was on 13th July in 2012 when Deepika Padukone Veronica proved that a star was ready to rule Bollywood. While the actress had earlier stunned us with her phenomenal performances in the past, Cocktail was the real game changer for her. She was hot, she looked sexy and oh-so-desirable. Veronica’s character was instantly loved by her fans and haters alike. Though Diana Penty managed to win Saif Ali Khan in the end, it was DP, who took home some brownie points for her wild character. You loved her but there was also some hatred attached when she tried to create a rift between Saif and Diana’s characters. The Padmaavat actress was impressive in this Homi Adajania’s movie and little did she know it was a stepping stone in her career.
However, it was Deepika’s futuristic prediction that helped her bag this role. According to initial reports, the actress was offered both the roles – i.e Meera and Veronica. But since Deepika character in Love Aaj Kal was similar to Meera in Cocktail, she decided to go ahead with Veronica. A decision that we bet she’s proud of. It was after her rejection, that Diana came on board and rest, as they say, is history.
