High court has ruled in favour of makers of Jimmy Sheirgill starrer – Veere Di Wedding title row: High Court rules in favour of Jimmy Sheirgill over Sonam Kapoor, Kareena Kapoor Khan
We all are eagerly waiting for Kareena Kapoor Khan’s first film, after having her first kid, to come out. In all probability the movie is going to be Veere Di Wedding, which also stars Sonam Kapoor, Swara Bhaskar. The chic flick has had its fair share of speculations and rumours, and even a small controversy. It turned out that a Punjabi movie starring Jimmy Sheirgill is releasing with the title Veere Ki Wedding. Sonam’s father, Anil Kapoor, not only wrote to Indian Motion Pictures Producers’ Association (IMPPA) about his concerns regarding the similar titles, but also moved to high court and raised the issue, reportedly.
High court has ruled in favour of makers of Jimmy Sheirgill starrer, and dismissed Anil’s claims that there was misuse of title to create hype. Director of Jimmy’s movie, Ashu Trikha, told a leading daily, “The judge said he was not convinced by the [Anil’s] argument. He did not find any misuse or deceit as alleged, given that the story and cast were different. We are waiting for the judgment copy.”
A leading entertainment portal quotes a source close to Sonam Kapoor and her family saying that this is not a big blow sort of situation as projected by many. The court has simply addressed that both movies can retain the title.
Sonam and Kareena’s Veere Di Wedding has been trying to go on floors since the final quarter of 2016. There have been various script narrations and discussions over fancy brunches, with the all-female crew clicking selfies and posing for paparazzi. But nothing really took shape in terms of production. There were rumours that Kareena’s pregnancy has postponed the film, but later Sonam hinted that Kareena will be playing a pregnant woman in the movie, and they will shoot with her baby bump. That did not happen. The ray of hope is Ekta Kapoor’s recent tweet where she announced that Balaji is on board with Veere Di Wedding. Let us see when the movie goes on floors for real
