Telugu actress Sri Reddy strips down to protest against casting couch in Tollywood
In a shocking turn of events, Telugu actress Sri Reddy was found stripping down to her bare minimum outside the Telugu Film Chambers of Commerce on Saturday morning. She had arrived dressed in Salwar Kameez and then reportedly went topless outside the office, in front of the cameras. This extreme act was to express her grief against the prevalent discrimination going on in the Tollywood industry. “This is the only way I can think of expressing my grief. If I have shown myself nude to several people in the film industry and despite that have got no roles, the only way I can protest is by going nude publicly,” states the actress as per reports on Times Of India. She went on to declare that despite having sent nude videos on filmmaker’s requests, she has not been given roles – “They see the videos and give no roles. They have even asked for live nude videos from me. That is the extend to which they go to take advantage of women who seek roles,” revealed the actress as per the same report.
The actress was also upset over not been given membership in the Movie Artists Association and this is despite having acted in three films. In the recent past she had had made casing couch allegations against known filmmaker Sekhar Kammula. She also punted fingers at Indian Idol singer Sreeram Chandra.
As per reports on News18, the actress was taken to a police station – She was there to lodge her protest. We told her to protest in a democratic way and not resort to such acts. She has not given any complaints regarding her allegations to police till now,” stated an officer as per the same report.
Reports also suggest that the industry has rubbished her claims and even filed a complaint against her remarks.
