Sunny Leone, Sushmita Sen, Raveena Tandon – 5 celebs who chose to have kids through adoption

Adoption is a practice that is followed by Hollywood, with many celebs like Tom Cruise, Angelina Jolie, Brad Pitt, Hugh Jackman etc. having adopted kids. However in Bollywood, the practice is rarely followed.

In a new development for Bollywood, who is currently discussing nepotism and racism, Sunny Leone and her husband Daniel Weber have adopted a baby girl from Latur as their own. It is quite a surprising move, since Bollywood celebs normally use IVF and surrogacy to have kids, with the prime examples being Shah Rukh Khan, Aamir Khan, Tusshar Kapoor and Karan Johar. Adoption is always seen as an act of benevolence, so we are sure Sunny Leone and Daniel are going to get a lot more admirers with this act.

Adoption is a practice that is followed by Hollywood, with many celebs like Tom Cruise, Angelina Jolie, Brad Pitt, Hugh Jackman etc. having adopted kids. However in Bollywood, the practice is rarely followed, as there is still a stigma attached to the process of adoption. But there are still celebs who have gone against the societal expectations and adopted kids in their families. Here are five such Bollywood celebs.

Sunny Leone

As we mentioned earlier, Sunny Leone and her husband have adopted a baby girl and have named her Nisha Kaur Weber. Speaking to HT, Sunny said, “Right now, it’s all so brand new because it has just been a few days. The moment we got the picture (of Nisha); I was so excited, happy, emotional and [experienced] so many different feelings. We literally had three weeks to finalise everything. Usually, people get nine months to prepare.”

Sushmita Sen

Sushmita Sen made headlines when she chose not to go for matrimony, instead adopting Renee, with many lauding her decision. A few years later she adopted another girl, Alisah. Now she is managing her daughters as well as her professional and social commitments with quite consummate ease.

Raveena Tandon

Not many knew that at the age of 21, Raveena Tandon had adopted two daughters named Pooja and Chhaya, when they were 11 and 8 years old, respectively. Both the girls are now grown up, are successful in their careers as well as happily married.

Salim Khan

Popular scriptwriter (now retired) and Salman Khan’s father Salim Khan may have had four kids, and yet he adopted a girl, Arpita, and raised her along with Salman, Sohail, Arbaaz and Alvira. Arpita married Ayush Sharma in 2015 and is a proud mother to baby Ahil.

Mithun Chakraborty

Like Salim Khan, even Mithun Chakraborty had kids of his own. And yet he adopted a girl, which he had found in a garbage bin, if stories are to be believed. Dishani is now said to be the apple of her family’s eyes.

Honourable mentions: Dibakar Banerjee, Nikhil Advani, Subhash Ghai etc.

We are quite proud of these Bollywood celebs and do hope that other celebs in the industry follow their lead.
