With disruption in schedules thanks to protests and on-set mishaps, there have been talks that Padmavati will not meet its November 17 release date, and instead will be pushed next year. It was rumoured that director Sanjay Leela Bhansali was not too happy with the hasty shooting schedules and wanted to have an extensive editing process to make sure the movie is looking great. So he had demanded a 6-month extension for the movie’s release. This demand of his is said to have brought him in loggerheads against the studio executives, as the latter feels that this decision would only add the already increasing budget of the epic period drama.
But as per a report in Mumbai Mirror, Padmavati‘s producers Viacom 18 has revealed that they will be sticking to their plans of releasing the movie on the original release date, i.e. November 17. A spokesperson of thee company gave this statement, “It will keep its November 17 date with the box-office.
So does that mean that the studio is not going to relent to SLB’s further demands? Perhaps, it doesn’t want another scene like Jagga Jasoos, that has been delayed multiple times because director Anurag Basu insisted on reshoots and patch works. The movie later bombed at the box office.
Padmavati is still in its shooting stages with portions featuring Ranveer Singh and Aditi Rao Hydari being canned at Film City. These scenes will involve a younger Allaudin Khilji, played by Ranveer, so his look is closely guarded. Padmavati is based on the folklore of Rani Padmini and how Delhi Emperor Alauddin Khilji was obsessed with her beauty, leading to tragic consequences. This will be the first time Ranveer Singh will be playing a negative role. Rani Padmini is played by Deepika Padukone, while Shahid Kapoor is playing her husband Raja Rattan Singh, the king of Mewar. This is the first Shahid and Deepika are being paired in a movie.
