Mouni Roy joins the ranks of Sonakshi Sinha and Disha Patani as she enters Rs 100 crore club with her debut film
Akshay Kumar and Mouni Roy starrer Gold has entered the elite club of Rs 100 crore in 12 days at the box office. Despite facing stiff competition from John Abraham’s Satyameva Jayate and new release Happy Phirr Bhag Jayegi, the period sports drama remained steady and achieved this milestone at the ticket windows. With this, Mouni Roy has become the part of Rs 100 crore club with her debut on the silver screen. However, this is not the first time we have witnessed the feat. Quite a few B-Town divas have achieved this benchmark, sometimes because of the star power of the male lead or sometimes because of the strong content.
Asin – Ghajini
Interestingly, Asin’s debut film also marks the first Rs 100 crore venture of Bollywood. Yes, Ghajini is the film, which inaugurated this elite club. Interestingly, the actress reprised her role in the Hindi remake of this Tamil blockbuster of the same name. She also went on to win Filmfare Best Debut Award that year beating Anushka Sharma, who was nominated for Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi.
Disha Patani – MS Dhoni: The Untold Story
The gorgeous actress Disha Patani made her Bollywood debut with Neeraj Pandey’s biographical sports drama MS Dhoni: The Untold Story. Despite her first appearance, the actress impressed us with her innocent portrayal of Priyanka. The film collected over Rs 133 crore during its theatrical run.
Sanya Malhotra – Dangal
Undoubtedly, Aamir Khan has given one of his finest performances in Dangal, but we can’t forget debutante Sanya Malhotra’s extraordinary portrayal of Babita Kumari Phogat. The film is currently the highest Bollywood grosser with a whopping collection of Rs 387.39 crore.
Sonakshi Sinha – Dabangg
While Dabangg gave us a kickass character of cop Chulbul Pandey, it also gifted us a natural actress Sonakshi Sinha, who played the girl-next-door role of Rajjo. Her dialogue “Thappad se darr nahi lagta saab, pyaar se lagta hai,” is still famous among the movie buffs.
Daisy Shah – Jai Ho
Okay, this did not perform as well as a Salman Khan film does, but it still gave debutante Daisy Shah her first Rs 100 crore film.
Ileana D’Cruz – Barfi
After proving her mettle in South, Ileana D’Cruz made a great debut in Bollywood with Barfi! Despite the presence of Ranbir Kapoor and Priyanka Chopra, Ileana did mark her presence and made her character memorable. She bagged Filmfare Best Debut Award beating Alia Bhatt, Diana Penty, Huma Qureshi and Yami Gautam.
