Madhuri Dixit was born on May 15, 1967 in Mumbai, Maharashtra. She attended Divine Child High School and later graduated from Mumbai University. From her childhood itself she had a passion for dance and from that very age she started to learn dancing. She is an accomplished Kathak dancer. She wanted to become a Micro-biologist and also pursued it from Parle College, Vile Parle (East), Bombay but later shifted to acting.
Madhuri made her acting debut in Rajshri Productions movie ‘Abodh’ in 1984 opposite Bengali actor, Tapas Paul. After going through many flops, she finally attained stardom from the lead role of ‘Mohini’ in N. Chandra’s blockbuster “Tezaab” opposite Anil Kapoor. She has been the muse of famous Indian painter M.F. Hussain. He made a painting series of her and in 2000 produced a film named ‘Gaja Gamini’ starring Madhuri, which was intended to be a tribute to Dhak Dhak girl herself.
She has been the judge for Jhalak Dikhla Jaa Seasons 4, 5, 6 and 7. Madhuri was also involved in playback singing for ‘Devdas’ and ‘Wajood’. She was titled ‘Actress of the Millennium’ in 2000 and also has her name in ‘Guinness Book of Records Millennium’ for highest paid Indian actress.
Ram Gopal Verma paid a tribute to her by making a film titled “Main Madhuri Dixit Banna Chahti Hoon”. She has also launched an online dance academy ‘DancewithMadhuri.com’ in 2013.
