Say hello to the tinsel town divas like Bipasha Basu, Shilpa Shetty, Taapsee Pannu, Huma Qureshi, Richa Chadda and Neha Dhupia whose drab style choices were a recipe for a terrible eye sore.
The much anticipated IIFA Awards 2017, a stunning extravaganza spanning over four days was indeed a starry affair with the who’s who of Bollywood stepping their most fashionable foot forward. While some celebs chose to experiment with the IIFA traditional green carpet, some stuck to their signature style. Amongst the experimental lot, tinsel town divas like Bipasha Basu, Shilpa Shetty, Taapsee Pannu, Huma Qureshi, Neha Dhupia donned outfits that belonged to the TACKY LAND – a land far far away from the ditzy fairyland!
With fashion gaining an unprecedented prominence across all celluloid platforms, B-town celebs have an additional responsibility to look faultless all the time. Enlisting the styling precision of some of the most sought-after stylists, these celebs have jumped aboard the bandwagon but have failed to grasp the concept of developing an innate sense of style and to steer clear of jarring trends. Here’s how these ladies courted all the brickbats for their least stunning looks.
Styled by Anisha Jain, Bipasha Basu wore a Gaurav Gupta gown with sneak peeks of her curves and navel through the sheer panels on the gown. Sporting a slick pulled back pony with bright red lips, Bipasha batted her bold eyes for the shutterbugs. Only Bipasha Basu could have pulled off such a risqué style move. But failing miserably, Bipasha’s bold look was an eye sore and we wish the diva had skipped testing the raunchy vibe and stuck to a subtle play of style.
Styled by Sanjana Batra, Shilpa Shetty chose a customized Monisha Jaising one-shoulder gown featuring a thigh high slit and a train cascading on one side. She rounded up the look with metallic Sergio Rossi sandals and a stunning makeup of shimmery burgundy eyelids, bold eyebrows, and nude pink lips. Shilpa Shetty defies age and we love her for that! But the risqué metallic gown was too shimmery for even Shilpa to own and slay. With her makeup game on point, we wish Shilpa Shetty had not experimented so much with metallics.
Styled by Devki Bhat, Taapsee Pannu went for a shimmery black vibe on the green carpet with a Steven Khalil dress, and rounded up her look with defined curls, strappy sandals and a subtle makeup. Ditching the gown and going for an unconventional sheer number, Taapsee aimed at being glamorous but failed in doing so.
Styled by Nikhil Mansata, Richa Chadda wore a green Tarun Tahiliani cape gown replete with tassels. Keeping her makeup minimal and hairstyle sleek, Richa rounded up the look with a green coloured clutch. A green carpet blunder, Richa’s experiment with the traditional Indian gown did not cater to our style sensibilities and we wish she had chosen something else.
Styled by Sanjana Batra, Huma Qureshi chose a Carolina Herrera gown and rounded up the look with earrings from Aurelle, a ring from Argentum Jewels and soft wavy hair with bright lips and dark eyes. While the colour is indeed pleasing and suits Huma to the T, we are not too sure about the feather print and the navy blue belt. Also, an elegant updo could have elevated her look completely allowing all the attention on the gown.
Going for a monochrome vibe, Neha Dhupia picked up a voluminous tulle gown and rounded up her look with a box clutch, a statement ring, a choker, subtle makeup and an elaborate updo. Looking nothing less than frumpy, Neha Dhupia’s gown was a complete downer and the addition of the sash simply added to the volume of the piling tulle mess.
While their styles failed to flatter, these tinsel town divas made a complete mess of the coveted international green carpet opportunity.
