Deepika Padukone getting paid more than Ranveer Singh and Shahid Kapoor for Padmavati? The actress speaks up – Deepika Padukone “proud” of her remuneration for Padmavati.
Pay disparity has been a long debated topic in the film industries all over the world. The most cliched answer has been that the day audience starts lining up for a woman centric movie, is the day actresses will earn as much as actors. Deepika Padukone is sort of breaking the stereotype. The gorgeous actress, dressed in a black bodycon kurta by Sabyasachi, was speaking at her upcoming movie Padmavati’s 3-D trailer launch when she said that she is “proud” of the money she gets.
Deepika will be seen in Padmavati, a film by Sanjay Leela Bhansali, with two male leads, Ranveer Singh and Shahid Kapoor. The actress plays the titular role in the movie which narrates the popular Indian folklore of Rani Padmini’s self immolation, a process called johar. She, of course, is the most integral part of the story, like any Bhansali film where women have just as much input to the plot as the men. For a change, as per reports, she is being paid more than her male co-stars. Reports suggest that she is getting a whopping Rs 13 crore, while the two actors are getting Rs 10 crore, each. “Talking about my remuneration isn’t excited. But I am proud and confident about the money I get. But what makes me happy is that they have invested so much money in a film which has a poster featuring me on it. That makes me proud. This is the beginning of great things woman have in films,” Deepika said at the 3D trailer launch of Padmavati.
The first song, Ghoomar, from Padmavati was released recently. It received a warm response from the fans and was trending all over the music charts. The original trailer of the film has clocked in 50 million views on YouTube.
